Victor Ponta wins PSD president seat last night with 856 votes, Mircea Geoana gets 781 votes

Victor Ponta was elected the president of the Social-Democrat Party (PSD) on Sunday night with 856 votes, while Mircea Geoana received 781 votes.

As many as 1,657 social-democrats expressed their opinion on who should lead the party, but 16 votes were canceled.

As to the vice presidents, Ecaterina Andronescu gathered most of the votes, being followed by Dan Nica, Gheorghe Nichita, Ion Toma and Marian Vanghelie.

The social-democrats Rodica Nassar, Constantin Nita, Ion Prioteasa, Robert Negoita, Titus Corlatean, Ioan Calea, Marian Oprisan, Ioan Chelaru, Valeriu Zgonea and Adrian Severin also managed to win a vice president seat last night.

The story of Daniel Raduta: How the Internet is trying to save the life of a man

In 10 days, the Internet managed to gather €57.000 for Daniel Raduta, a young man diagnosed with leukaemia. However, the marrow transplant costs three times more than that. Twitter, Facebook and the weblogs are about to do something that the Romanian system cannot: save the life of a man.

The most frequent term you’ll find on the Romania twittersphere these days is #draduta. It’s a hash tag known by almost all of the 10.000 Twitter users from Romania. The abbreviation comes from Daniel R?du??, a 30 year-old IT worker diagnosed in September last year with leukaemia. His story travelled all around the Internet in Romania in more than 100 articles on weblogs, starting with Daniel’s personal blog, which gathered more than 7.000 visits up to this moment. His cause on Facebook has 5.700 supporters.
